Symptoms of Meningococcal Disease

Meningitis B symptoms develop rapidly and require immediate emergency treatment. Early recognition saves lives and reduces the risk of permanent complications.

The glass test: Press the side of a clear glass firmly against the rash. If the rash doesn’t fade, seek emergency medical help immediately. Don’t wait for a rash to appear—other symptoms alone require urgent assessment.
If you suspect meningitis or septicaemia, call 999 immediately. Early treatment with intravenous antibiotics is critical—don’t wait to see if symptoms improve.

Side Effects of Meningitis B Vaccination

The MenB vaccine is safe and well-tolerated. Most side effects are mild and resolve within 24–48 hours. The vaccine is administered by intramuscular injection, usually into the upper arm (deltoid) for children aged 2 years and above, adolescents, and adults.
